Alanya has a rich history -from a pirate stronghold in the centuries BC, to a gift for Cleopatra from Rome. Dominating the long sandy beach is a tongue of land pointing out to the sea. The crown of this promontory is Alanya Castle, with the old city's fortified walls rising and falling with the land. Once at the castle the views are worth the climb, and you soon discover just how large this fortified complex is. Other points of interest in this popular resort are the Damlatas caves, where stalagmites meet stalactites, and a particularly humid atmosphere is said to benefit the lungs.

Scuba Diving in Alanya
The interesting flora, a variety of underwater marine life and especially the enticing underwater caverns and caves have made Alanya a popular dive resort. Most of the dive sites are situated around the coastline of the Alanya Castle, the steep cliffs of which turn to dramatic drop-offs under the surface of the sea. The close proximity of these dive sites makes them easily accessible even by inflatables, and diving three or four times a day is possible with the option of returning to base after each dive. The sites are also very suitable for night dives.
The last dive point on the promontory where the castle was build, and next to the Cleopatra Beach where legend says that she and Anthony used to sunbathe, is also a favourite dive site - the Rambo Cavern. The entrance to it is by a wide tunnel about 14m down a vertical wall through which 4-5 divers can swim alongside. A large cave is soon reached roughly 35m wide and where the air pocket is 25m high -divers can surface to breath the clean air as they view the marvellous formation of overhangs and stalactites.
For the cavern/cave dives groups are kept small, the maximum being 6 divers and led by a dive guide and a dive leader. All the boats are equipped with Oxygen, First Aid supplies and Marine VHF. Equipment available includes BCD's 12 and 15 litre steel tanks, full one piece 5mm wet suits, shorties and regulators.
Dive packages with up to four dives a day can be prebooked.
